Horse owners tend to think about their horses in terms of seasons: laminitis and hormones in the spring, ulcers and allergies in the summer, laminitis and upper respiratory problems in the fall, and getting fat or stocking up in the winter. There is some crossover and variation but if you’re a horse owner, you know what I’m talking about.
Our nutrient dense pellet stays the same throughout the year but the leafy inclusions that are added into the pellet change seasonally. Here’s what’s on tap for summer.
Summer Mix
The Base: Sainfoin (65%), Organic Chia Seeds, Extruded Heated Organic Soybean Meal, Organic Wheat Grass Powder, Organic Carrot Meal, Brewer's Yeast, Selenium Yeast, Chelated Copper Amino Acid Complex, Chelated Zinc Amino Acid Complex, Natural Vitamin E, Magnesium Malate
Summer: Calendula, Dandelion Leaf, Fenugreek, Chicory Root, Blackberry Leaf, Plantain, Marshmallow Root, Slippery Elm, Mangosteen, Red Clover Caps, Sea Buckthorn
For our Summer Blend we include plants with high mucosal properties to help coat and soothe the unprotected part of the horse's stomach. We build on this with sainfoin, which has astringent and hemostatic properties to provide anti-inflammatory support throughout the gastrointestinal tract. This combination helps keep ulcers at bay when the summer riding season ramps up. All of the Biome Blends support all 11 body systems, but for summer we also lean into plants that support a proper immune response to keep your horse comfortable from flies, fungus, etc... no matter where they are or what they are doing.
